Scion FR-S Insurance

Share

Car buyers looking for an affordable sports car have had slim pickings in recent years. Sure, there are muscle cars such as the Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro, the convertible Mazda MX-5 Miata, and hot hatches such as the Volkswagen GTI, Mazda MazdaSpeed3 and Subaru Impreza WRX to choose from, but truly affordable performance sports coupes have become hard to come by. But that is about to change.

Keeping Scion Fresh

The Scion FR-S, a new sports coupe designed by Toyota (Toyota makes Scions) but engineered by Subaru (and the FR-S’ sister model the Subaru BRZ), delivers spirited driving at an affordable price. The model’s release date is in Spring 2012. And if you buy an FR-S, you will need Scion FR-S insurance.

Scion first debuted in 2004 as a means for Toyota to target a more youthful demographic. While it has had modest success, its lineup has not had a significant addition in recent years and its models, while offering some uniqueness, lack much sport. The FR-S fills this void slotting above the less powerful, and less sporty Scion tC coupe.

Blending the Best of Toyota and Subaru

The FR-S combines style, functionality, fuel economy, performance, and affordability in one attractive package. It also combines some of Toyota’s strengths with those of Subarus. The FR-S and BRZ are the only front-engine rear driver sports cars in the world powered by a boxer engine. The models use Subaru’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with Toyota-sourced direct injection.

The result is a powerful yet efficient package. The 2,660-pound Scion FR-S is expected to produce 197 horsepower and get about 32-mpg highway. In comparison, a competitor the front-wheel drive 2012 Honda Civic Si Coupe has a 2.4-liter 200 horsepower four-cylinder engine that gets EPA-estimated fuel economy of 22-mpg city and 31-mpg highway.

Even though the FR-S is a two door, Toyota and Subaru set out to make it reasonably practical with seating for four. And the trunk is large enough to hold two golf bags.

Scion FR-S Insurance Considerations

When considering this model, Scion FR-S insurance rates should be carefully contemplated. The rates, of course, are going to vary depending on factors like your age, gender, credit and driving record.

Liability coverage varies from state to state so be sure to do the research and find a reputable insurer. Also, factor in your driving record, including any prior accidents and history of parking tickets, moving violations or a DUI. This doesn’t eliminate the possibility of a promising rate but you want to keep this in mind for balancing decent coverage without overpaying.

Still, none of that should overshadow your intent: to ensure when you, or your loved one, is behind the wheel of the FR-S, you are all adequately protected. Whether it’s your daughter taking that long drive back to her dorm or your wife taking the kids to school before heading off to the city, you know the FR-S will do the job with its legendary Toyota reliability. So, take a serious look at safeguarding your car and look to save on Scion FR-S insurance.
